India's leading two wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp will be focusing on premium motorcycle segment. As the Hero will now work on higher powered motorcycles.
Chairman of the Hero MotoCorp, Pawan Munjal said that Hero needs to play an active role in the upper segment of the motorcycle market. Which is currently dominated by Bajaj, Yamaha and Royal Enfield. Whereas Hero leads the entry-level motorcycle segment with products such as Splendor and Passion.
Hero currently offers newly launched Achiever, Xtreme and Hunk in 150cc segment and Karizma and ZMR in 225cc category. But has not been able to make a name for itself in the premium segment.
Hero has been striving hard to in-house product development in its Centre of Innovation and Research (CIT) in Jaipur.
Munjal stated that development of new products and higher powered motorcycles is one of the key challenges in front of the company. A 200cc sports version of the Xtreme is in the making and is likely be launched in the coming quarters.
