Jorge Lorenzo & Ducati Confirm MotoGP Deal For Two Years
Jorge Lorenzo has finally ended his dream run with Movistar Yamaha. From 2008 to 2016 the Spaniard has always ridden in MotoGP with the Japanese manufacturer. Now Lorenzo will take on the challenge and ride for Ducati Factory Team for the 2017-2018 MotoGP Championship.
Lorenzo has won three MotoGP Championships with Yamaha, over a period of nine years. The Spaniard plans on joining a very special group of individuals who have won Championships with two different manufacturers. Only Giacomo Agostini, Eddie Lawson, Valentino Rossi, and Casey Stoner have achieved this feat.
The move by Lorenzo means that Yamaha will be looking out for a rider to fill his spot. Currently, Yamaha is aiming at roping in Maverick Vinales for a couple of years. Valentino Rossi confirmed that he will race with Yamaha until the end of 2018 MotoGP season.
Ducati will most likely remove one of its current riders to make way for Lorenzo in the team. Either Andrea Dovizioso or Andrea Iannone will be losing their ride at the end of 2016 MotoGP Championship. There is also a possibility of Ducati fielding a three-rider lineup for next season.
The Italian two-wheeler manufacturer is highly competitive this season, however, they have not been able to secure a win. Last GP win came back in 2010 with Casey Stoner on board a different Ducati. Jorge Lorenzo is expected to also win the title with Ducati and further improve the bike.
