Crutchlow Makes Britain Proud With MotoGP Victory After 35 Years
Cal Crutchlow at the age of 30 achieves his very first MotoGP victory. The British rider previously has come very close to winning a MotoGP race. The last MotoGP victory by a British rider was back in 1981, by Barry Sheene at the Swedish Grand Prix.
The LCR Honda rider, Cal Crutchlow was the only one to gamble with his tyre selection. He chose the hardest rain tyre available from Michelin. Crutchlow anticipated that the track would not dry out completely and it would not be a flag to flag Czech GP.
Honda also took its second satellite win during the 2016 MotoGP Championship with Cal Crutchlow. Previously, Jack Miller delivered the first satellite victory of 2016 at almost similar conditions. Last five races have witnessed five different riders and teams take a victory.
Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo witnessed terrible starts and ended lap one out of points. Eventually, both Yamaha riders got to terms with the Michelin tyres and started setting quick lap times. Both riders started making progress and seemed menacing during the mid-stage.
Rossi managed his ride brilliantly taking second place at the 2016 Czech GP. Importantly, he is now second in the Championship and has brought down Marquez's lead. Lorenzo's strategy was completely washed away as he could not gain confidence with the Michelin tyres towards the end.
Marc Marquez dominated the race in a typical fashion by taking the lead early on. The Spaniard also struggled with a deteriorating tyre, which ended his chance to fight for the victory. Marquez eventually stole third place from Iannone whose tyres were completely devastated.
