2016 India Bike Week: Benelli Showcases Sporty Tornado 302
Benelli showcased the Tornado 302 fully faired sports bike in Goa at the 2016 India Bike Week. The bike was first unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo. The 302 is the fully faired version of the TNT 300 that Benelli has on sale in the country.
Engine & Gearbox
The Benelli Tornado 302 gets its power from a 300cc inline twin engine with dual overhead camshafts. The engine sends the power to the rear wheel through a 6-speed gearbox.
The inline twin produces 35bhp of peak power at a heady 12,000 rpm and also churns out 27Nm of peak torque at 9,000 rpm.
Benelli claims that the Tornado 302 will hit 60km/h from standstill in 3.4 seconds, while the sprint to 100km/h is completed in 8.34 seconds. The Tornado 302 tops out at 154km/h.
Suspension & Brakes
The Tornado is fitted with 41mm upside down forks up front and a monoshock at the rear.
Both wheels are 17 inch alloys and are fitted with tyres from Meltzer. The front is a 110 section tyre while the rear is a 150 section tyre.
Braking Duties are handled by260mm twin disc brakes up front while the rear tyre is bought to a halt by a single 240mm disc.
Styling
The Tornado features a fully faired design. The two standout design features are the twin headlamps up front (a Benelli signature) and the double barrel exhaust.
Pricing, Availability & Rivals
The new Tornado 302 is expected to be priced at around Rs. 3 lakh when it launches in mid 2016. When it does put the rubber down on Indian roads, it will be up against some rather stiff competition in the form of the manaical Duke 390 as well as the the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the Yamaha R3.
