Bajaj has upgraded its entire portfolio of bikes to BSIV emission levels and the rise of input costs has led to the increase in price.
Bajaj Auto announced today it will increase prices of its bikes by up to Rs 1,500 beginning January 2017. The company cited rising input costs and upgrading of its entire portfolio of motorcycles to BSIV emission levels has led to the hike in prices.
Bajaj Auto Ltd. President (Motorcycle) Eric Vas said that all two-wheeler manufacturers in the country are trying to be BSIV compliant by April next year. They want to be the first ones to transition to the next emission levels.
He further added that as the company shifts all its bikes to the next emission levels complaint, they will hike prices between Rs 700 to Rs 1,500, depending upon specific models from January 2017.
The company has made some of the bikes BSIV complaint and it expects to convert the rest of the products conforming to emission levels by middle of 2017.
Other reasons to hike the prices of Bajaj bikes is due to the rising input costs, firming up of commodity prices and oil. The transitioning to the next level in emission norms and to accommodate theincrease in raw materials have led to the hike.
Bajaj recently launched its flagship motorcycle Dominar 400 with price starting at Rs 1.36 lakh, the hike will not affect the newly launched bike.
