Aprilia SR150 To Be Powered By Vespa’s 150cc Engine In India
At the 2016 Auto Expo, Aprilia showcased its entry-level scooter for the Indian market. The SR150 by Aprilia is expected to launch in the country by August-September, 2016. Present at the unveiling of this scooter was Stefano Pelle, Managing Director of Piaggio Group in India.
Now to keep costs in check and offer an affordable Aprilia product in the Indian market. Vespa India will provide its all-new 150cc engine to the Aprilia scooter. The engineers will, however, retune this engine to extract maximum performance from the existing engine.
The all-new Aprilia SR150 will also be locally manufactured at Baramati, Maharashtra. Aprilia, owing to Piaggio Group's manufacturing unit will be able to price its scooter at an attractive price. We expect the SR150 to be priced within the Rs. 1 lakh price bracket.
Currently, the Vespa 150cc engine produces 11.40bhp, along with 11.50Nm of peak torque. The single cylinder engine receives three valves and is air-cooled. An automatic gearbox is mated to the 150cc single cylinder engine on the scooter.
In terms of design, the Aprilia SR150 scooter will look completely different from Vespa scooters. The SR150 by Aprilia will bear a futuristic and minimalistic design philosophy. Quality will be top-notch and will be a true moto-scooter for Indian markets. Stay tuned for more updates on the Aprilia SR150.
