Exclusive: Aprilia Has Big, Interesting Plans Lined Up For India
Aprilia is one of the hottest topics amongst auto enthusiasts in the country now, thanks to the SR 150 scooter that will be launched soon. The scooter has already seen good response and to keep that good momentum going, Aprilia has a few more plans for India.
The Aprilia SR 150
Let's start with the SR 150 itself first. The scooter receives 90 percent localisation, which has helped the company keep its cost low. The 'Made in India' SR 150 will be exported to Europe and Asian countries starting next year, and to meet this demand, production will be ramped up.

The next area of focus are the tyres. Aprilia currently use a tyre brand made in Thailand, called Vee Rubber because no tyre manufacturer makes this particular size (120/70-14) in India. The tyres offer superior grip, similar to the metzeler tyres that come on the KTMs.

Aprilia is currently working with a particular tyre manufacturer to source the same size and maintain the same compound. Aprilia will go ahead only when the tyre meets all Aprilia's criterias and the first lot of scooters will come with Thailand made Vee Rubber tyres.
Aprilia confirms two more models!
Aprilia's SR 150 is not the first and last for India. The two-wheeler manufacturer will bring in two more scooter models in 2017. Both scooters will have the same chassis as the SR 150, but one of them will have a different engine - no, not a 125.

Aprilia will not launch a 125 in India as it feels there is no sense in doing so. The company will not bring any other product priced below the Rs. 65,000 price bracket. Although nothing much was revealed about the two upcoming models, the approximate launch period was revealed. The first model will be launched in India during early 2017, while the second model will make it to the market by 2017-end.
