By Ajinkya

UM Motorcycles will be launching their all-new cruiser bikes in India on February 3, 2016. The Renegade range is expected to launch first followed by the Commando range of cruisers. All UM Motorcycles will be on display at the 2016 Auto Expo for public viewing.

The Renegade and Commando will be built locally in India, thus, benefitting from extremely competitive pricing. UM Motorcycles has partnered with Lohia Auto for the local manufacturer of the cruiser bikes. We are expecting the motorcycles to be priced sub-Rs. 2 lakh.

So far, engine and performance figures have not been revealed by UM Motorcycles. Both bikes will feature sub-300cc, single-cylinder engines, along with smaller capacity derivatives. The engines are most likely to feature liquid-cooling and a six-speed gearbox.

UM Motorcycles will have to contend with tough competitors in the Indian market. Royal Enfield has a wide range of cruiser motorcycles and is a popular brand across the world. Bajaj Auto recently introduced its new range of Avenger cruisers in the country.

For the future, UM Motorcycles plans on using its Indian facility as a manufacturing hub. The Renegade and Commando range of cruisers will be exported from India to several markets. UM Motorcycles Renegade and Commando cruisers will be developed keeping in mind Asian and several emerging markets.
