Two Racers Lose Their Lives At Laguna Seca In Superstock 1000 Race
On 19th of July, 2015 FIM World Championship organised their races at Laguna Seca, California in America. Unfortunately two riders were involved in an opening lap incident at the first corner.
The incident did not occur in the WSBK category and the two riders were competing in MotoAmerica's Superbike/Superstock 1000 category. The racers involved have succumbed to their injuries and our heartfelt sympathy goes out their families.
Riders involved in this unfortunate incident were Daniel Rivas Fernandez and Bernat Martinez both hailing from Spain. They were 27 years and 35 years old respectively and were declared dead due to injuries sustained during the race incident.
Motorsports is a dangerous form of sport and it is not to be replicated on streets. Accidents do occur on closed circuits as well, however, the chances are lower in a controlled environment.
There was a multi-bike accident in the very first corner, which resulted in several riders crashing out. This resulted in several riders being injured, while two lost their lives.
Wayne Rainey, MotoAmerica President, expressed, "I really don't have any words to describe what we all feel."
He further added, "First and foremost, is the loss to the families and loved ones. Our sincere condolences goes out to each and every one of them as well as the MotoAmerica family. They are in our thoughts and prayers."
