Future Royal Enfield Models Could Come Equipped With Optional ABS
The Indian Government is focussed on implementing more stringent rules and enforcing mandatory safety features on both two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
Their goal currently is to have manufacturers offer ABS is standard equipment on two-wheelers by 2017. Several manufacturers have already commenced offering ABS as an option.
Royal Enfield has made it clear that they will be launching two new products in 2016. One of them is called the ‘Himalayan' and is an adventure motorcycle, surely ABS would be a helpful addition.
The Indian two-wheeler manufacturer offers its motorcycles globally and several of them have strict rules. Currently Royal Enfield does not offer ABS on domestic as well as international models.
We believe Royal Enfield will be providing ABS only to their new models. It is not known currently if existing models would also be feature it, however, we would like to see it at least as an option.
Currently Bosch provides an affordable ABS system, which could be used by Royal Enfield. To keep costs in check they could use a single channel ABS system as well, which will take care of the front wheel locking up.
