Rossi & Marquez Collide In Epic Battle, Literally: 2015 Argentina GP
Nine-time MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi has proved why he is known as ‘The Doctor'. The Italian legend had a disappointing qualifying, however, had great race strategy.
Movistar Yamaha and Rossi made their intent clear, they preferred race pace over one lap pace. As a result Rossi began the race down in third row in eighth position.
Marc Marquez, who began from pole had a decent start, however, it was Aleix Espargaro who took the lead. Marquez was quick to retake his position in front and the lack of pace from Suzuki meant Aleix could not fight for his position.
It once again seemed as a boring race as Marquez took the front and opened up a huge lead. Rossi made it interesting as he systematically started moving up among the top MotoGP riders.
The Italian had a huge task up ahead as he fought with Petrucci, Lorenzo, Aleix, Iannone, Crutchlow and Dovizioso. It seemed impossible that he would make ground to Marquez.
Thirteen laps to go and the gap between them was within five seconds. The Italian multiple MotoGP champions registered fast laps after another. He eventually set the lap record at the circuit and had Marquez in his sight.
It was no surprise that once Rossi was in range he would fight for victory immediately. The Italian did exactly that and it seemed that spectators would get their money's worth fight in last three laps.
Knowing Marquez, it was evident he would not make it easy for Rossi at all. The Spaniard was overtaken and decided to fight back soon, in the process his front tyre touched Rossi.
Valentino Rossi gave a him glance as soon as they exited the corner and it was followed by Marquez touching the Yamaha's rear wheel and crashing out of the race. Rossi's fan club erupted with joy as The Doctor would make a massive improvement in Championship standing.
Race direction immediately investigated the incident and dismissed it as a racing incident. If you missed the race do make it a point to go and watch the highlights, if you are a Rossi fan.
