Brijmohan Lall Munjal, Hero Group Founder Passes Away
Brijmohan Lall Munjal, Hero Group Founder passes away at the age of 92 years. He passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2015, and will be cremated on Monday. Brijmohan Lall Munjal was admitted at Max hospital in New Delhi.
The Grand Old Patriarch of Hero MotoCorp was born on July 1, 1923, in a Punjabi family. He was born in undivided India and spent his younger days in Kamalia, which is now part of Pakistan. The entire Munjal family moved to India during partition.
Brijmohan Lall Munjal began his journey by manufacturing cycle components. He then set up a manufacturing business of bicycles under the brand name Hero Cycles. These cycles were popular in the Indian market and are still on offer till date with a modern interpretation.
Hero Group then took a mammoth task of entering the motorised two-wheeler sector. They partnered with Honda, a Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer. The duo engineered and developed motorcycles and scooters side-by-side for a long period.
Hero MotoCorp recently split-up with Honda, taking complete control of the two-wheeler business. They are currently the largest manufacturer of two-wheelers in the world. Hero MotoCorp is constantly exploring options of entering new markets with their two-wheelers.
Recently, Hero MotoCorp launched two new scooters in India, which were built completely from the ground up. They christened the new scooters as Maestro Edge, which is priced at Rs. 49,500 ex-showroom (New Delhi) and the Duet scooter is priced at Rs. 48,400 ex-showroom (Bangalore).
