Yamaha Working On Project Named R3 Motorcycle
Yamaha has still to launch its quarter-litre motorcycle, the R25, out of Indonesia. Now the Japanese manufacturer has reserved the R3 name and is rumored to build a bigger capacity motorcycle based on its 250cc in-line two machine.
There is good news and bad news, the good news is that Yamaha could provide a 320cc engine for its R3. Coming to the bad news, it is not bound for India and the trademark has been reserved for UK. The R3 is expected to be sold in developed markets and will be targeted as a learner's superbike.
It is a known fact that every manufacturer is entering the 300cc segment. Kawasaki have their Ninja 300 and Yamaha's R25 is very close in terms of power and performance. The Ninja edges away with a higher price, whereas the R25 will be localised and would be considerably cheaper too.

Honda is also on the move and will be launching the updated version of its CBR250R, it will be replaced by a bigger CBR300R. The extra capacity is expected to make the motorcycle more desirable and costs will be low as it will be a single cylinder mill.
Yamaha's R3 will give the Ninja 300 a run for its money and could steal the show. However, fellow Japanese manufacturer Kawasaki is rumoured to be working on a power-packed four-cylinder, quarter-litre engine. The two-wheeler market is heating up for sure and will be the space to watch out for.
Yamaha is expected to launch the R25 in India early next year. The Japanese manufacturer was planning to launch it in 2014, however, due to the huge demand in Indonesia itself the manufacturer decided to clear the issue. The R25 when launched in India will be placed slightly higher in terms of pricing to KTM's Duke 390.
