Yamaha Recalls YZF-R1 From India; Headlight Issue
Yamaha India sells their litre class bike the YZF-R1 in India via the CBU route. A CBU or completely built unit means it is imported where need be and not built over there.
The Japanese superbike manufacturer has ordered a recall of 100 bikes from India, as part of their global program.
The recall demands Yamaha to locate 100 of their bikes, which were sold in the span of last four years.
Yamaha website explains that their parent company Yamaha Motor Co. in Japan has found a defect. The headlight lead coupler has an issue of overheating and melting in the YZF-R1, the problem lies with a few production models.
Yamaha has asked its R1 owners to get their bikes checked for the faulty parts. The Japanese giant will not charge the owners for the bike check up.
Yamaha has begun a factory modification campaign, where they will replace the faulty headlight sub with a new one.
In the previous month Yamaha had recalled their R1 in U.S.A., the bikes in question were the ones sold between 2009-2013. They too had the same faulty headlight issue.
In India last year, Yamaha had ordered a recall of its Ray, scooter. There was an issue with the handlebar and almost 56,082 vehicles were called back.
The Japanese giant is doing a good job of rectifying these problems; however, could these problems have been averted earlier.
