Yamaha India To Introduce Fuel Efficient Motorcycles
Yamaha India has decided that it will be shifting its focus from performance motorcycles to more fuel efficient two wheelers. The Japanese manufacturer is known around the world for its track prowess and performance oriented machines.
The Japanese manufacturer is adopting this policy, as it sees a bigger market share in India among fuel efficient motorcycles. Yamaha will be introducing all future models with more efficient engines. The manufacturer will also be upgrading its current lineup of motorcycles with improved fuel efficiency tech.
The performance oriented manufacturer currently sells FZ, FZS, Fazer and R15 in the motorcycle category. Yamaha also offers a range of scooters in India consisting of Alpha, Raz and Ray Z. The Japanese manufacturer is the leader in the 150+cc segment of motorcycles. Yamaha India sold 3,07,511 motorcycles in the period of 2013 to 2014.

Toshikazu Kobayashi, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor R&D India told our source, "Under such a situation, for us to continue the growth momentum further, it is imperative to provide customers value addition to the products we offer. Within this, better fuel efficiency is going to be one key growth driver in coming days."
He also said, "For this, we would need to develop better technology that can improve fuel burning, lower friction in combustion area and reduce vehicle weights. However, keeping the highly competitive Indian market in view, we would need to develop a low cost fuel injection system for the market to maintain the cost benefit and also keep a check on emission for cleaner air and we are working on that."
Yamaha India has three scooters on offer - during the year 2013 to 2014 they sold 1,76,981 scooters. The Japanese manufacturer will be inaugurating a new facility at Chennai, to boost their growth further. The new facility will be completely functional by 2018 and will be able to manufacture 18,00,000 vehicles.
