Yamaha had revealed their automatic scooter Alpha at the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi. Since it's launch in February the Alpha has sold 14,000 scooters, which is great considering the economic slowdown.
Most of these sales are coming from Bangalore, which is considered to be the biggest two wheeler market within India. Yamaha has confirmed that their new scooter Alpha is doing great in all parts of India and specially in Bangalore.

Yamaha claims they have so far 3,500 bookings for their Alpha in Bangalore alone. The Japanese bike manufacturer claims to hold 11% share in South of India among two-wheelers. Their plan currently is to to grow steadily up to 15% within the coming 6 months.
Yamaha is betting high with their scooters and expect to sell 20,000 Alpha's each month in India. Out of which, 50% sales are expected from South of India.
The Japanese two wheeler giant entered the Indian scooter market with it's Ray and followed it with a Ray-Z. The Ray was targeted to women, while Ray-Z got a few additions and was aimed at male riders.
Their new scooter Yamaha Alpha is based on their Ray scooter, which sports a 113cc engine and is air cooled. It has a 4-stroke single cylinder engine with two valves and develops 7.1 Ps of power along with 8.1 Nm of peak torque.
Yamaha Alpha is their third scooter for Indian market, they plan to launch more scooters soon. Yamaha's Alpha sports a broader and well cushioned seat. The wheelbase has been increased compared to the Yamaha Ray and Ray-Z.
The scooter looks subtle and has unisex look coupled with an attractive price of Rupees 49,518, will give Honda's Activa a few sleepless nights.
