UM Motorcycles Confirm India Launch By Mid 2015

UM is a motorcycle brand, which was founded by Villegas family. Their major operations were handled by Octavio Villegas Llano. UM is an American motorcycle brand, it has a strong global presence.

At the recent 2014 Auto Expo, which was held in Delhi, India UM motorcycles had showcased a few of their products. Their bikes garnered loads of attention and the American manufacturer had promised to launch their bikes in India soon, back then.

To commence an India operation is not easy and most manufacturers opt for joint ventures. UM motorcycles has now confirmed that they will be partnering with Lohia Auto Industries. It is a 50-50 joint venture between the two and has been renamed as ‘UML'.

They will launch their first products in the Indian market by mid-2015. These will range from 300cc to 500cc motorcycles. UML plan to have a network of 50 dealers in most metro cities of India during their first year. UML was formed on 27th of September, 2014 on a equal term joint venture.

UM motorcycles and Lohia Auto Industries will be make an investment of INR 120 crore over a prior of years. The motorcycles will be assembled at Kashipur, Uttarakhand at Lohia Auto facility. Both believe the facility is capable of producing 1,00,000 units in a year.

UM motorcycles will be locally manufacturer in India, thus enabling more profits and a competitive pricing. They have yet not confirmed, which of their models will be made in India. They will face tough competition from DSK Benelli, which will be launching their products in India soon.
