Sylvain Guintoli Wins 2014 Superbike World Championship
The last round of Superbike World championship was organised under floodlights at Losail International circuit of Qatar. The championship contender were Tom Sykes of Kawasaki Racing team and Sylvain Guintoli of Aprilia Racing team.
They both were divided by just a few points between them. At the end of this outing the winner won by a difference of six points. As you know there are two races contested on the same day and it was won by the 2014 Superbike World Champion.
The final race ended with Kawasaki rider Tom Sykes finishing the year with 410 points, while Sylvain Guintoli on his Aprilia machinery scored 416 point. This makes the French rider 2014 eni FIM Superbike World Champion.
In third place was Jonathan Rea on his Pata Honda World Superbike Team with 334 points. He was closely followed by Marco Melandri on his Aprilia Racing Team machinery. It was a close battle for first and second and then again for third and fourth place in 2014 championship.
In a twist of events the newly crowned 2014 World Superbike Champion will be switching teams for 2015 season. The French rider will be competing next year with Pata Honda team, along with Michael van der Mark as team mate. He is considered to be the most experienced rider in the current paddock.
Sylvain Guintoli is 32 years old and has tried his luck in MotoGP championship as well. He rode for Tech 3 Yamaha team in 2007 and made a move to Ducati, where he rode fro a single year and was left without a team. He made a brief return back in 2011, however, it was not a successful return.
