The Suzuki V-Strom 1000 ABS Is Now In India
In the adventure biking segment which is mainly dominated by Triumphs and KTMs, here comes a new face - the Suzuki V-Strom 1000 ABS. This new bike is the second generation of the adventure motorcycle which debuted in 2002.
The V-Strom offers good on-road performance as well as decent off-road agility. The bike is now on sale for INR 14.95 lakh (ex-showroom Pune).
Adventure bikes need not be high-revving and aggressive. They need to be comparatively laid back and more torquey. These bikes are designed to tackle any terrain comfortably rather than just transport you from one place to another. Adventure bikes are meant to be stress-free that can handle on and off-road conditions with ease.

The 1037cc, V-twin engine produces 101 bhp of power and 103 Nm of peak torque at revs as low as 4000 rpm, with loads of torque available from as low as 2500 rpm onwards. Well, there may be questions as to why the power output is comparatively low when other bikes put almost double the amount?
The V-Strom does a comfortable 180 km/h and revs to 9500 rpm. The bike is tall and could be a bit of a challenge to shorter riders but one can overcome that in no time. Cornering on the other hand is not very comfortable in the beginning because of its height. But with a bit of practice, one will notice that riding becomes fun!
This Suzuki features fully adjustable USD (Upside Down) forks and sports a monoshock at the rear. The bike has a good ride quality compared to a Triumph or a BMW. A set of good off roading tyres and the bike is all ready to be taken off-road. The V-Strom comes with ABS and a three-step traction control system as standard which can be turned off. This is a perfect bike to tackle the unforgiving terrain of the mighty Himalayas, for example.
Surprisingly, this is a great bike to be ridden everyday as well. It gives about 17-20 kpl in city conditions and 23-25 kpl on open roads. The stress-free engine which is liquid-cooled does not overheat like some other high-capacity motorcycles in city conditions. The higher riding position means it is easier to navigate through traffic.
The V-Strom is not the prettiest looking motorcycle around though. It is imposing. This is a perfect litre-class bike suitable for day-to-day use as well as a good getaway motorcycle for those looking for a bit of fun and adventure.
