Suzuki To Launch Gixxer Soon; Tech Details
Suzuki India had revealed their new motorcycle the Gixxer just before the 2014 Auto Expo. During the unveil with their brand ambassador Salman Khan, the Japanese manufacturer did not reveal any engine details or tech specs. The Gixxer is due to launch in June, 2014 at Indonesia and we thus, have details of the bike.
Suzuki's new bike dubbed as the Gixxer will sport a single cylinder 155cc Single Over Head Camshaft (SOHC) engine. The engine will churn out 13.4 Nm of peak torque along with 13.9 PS. The engine will not feature liquid-cooling, however, will have a traditional air-cooled system. The Indian-spec bike will not have fuel injection and will sport a carburettor. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
Suzuki Gixxer is a good looking bike in its segment and will easily compete with the likes of Honda Trigger, Bajaj Pulsar 150 and FZ16 by Yamaha. The bikes in this segment look modern and are highly popular among the masses. We will have to wait and see how Suzuki prices the bike, which will be a major factor in accepting or rejecting the motorcycle.
The Japanese manufacturer will provide its 150cc Gixxer with an all-digital instrument console. It will also feature a well-sculpted fuel tank, special alloy wheels and a triangular exhaust with dual outlets. The bike will ride on 110/80 F tyre and a 140/60 R tyre will be fitted on 17-inch black powder coated alloy wheels.
Our anticipation is that Suzuki India would price the Gixxer at a price of roughly between INR 77,000 to INR 80,000. Suzuki will export the bike to nearby markets like Indonesia.
The bike is being delayed as the company is waiting for orders to launch the bike from Suzuki, Japan. Expect the motorcycle to be available in India by mid-July, 2014.
