Royal Enfield To Increase Production With INR 600 Crore Investment
Indian motorcycle brand, Royal Enfield is known for two things: its iconic thumping bike and extensive waiting periods for its motorcycles. Royal Enfield is currently owned by Eicher Motors - it has decided to boost the production of the motorcycle by investing approximately INR 600 crore in an effort to decrease the waiting period for its buyers.
They will be strategically investing in both their plants over a period of two years. Royal Enfield currently has two plants, the first being its facility at Tiruvottiyur, Tamil Nadu. Its second plant is in Oragadam, again in Tamil Nadu. The new facility is bigger in size than the earlier facility and can produce more motorcycles.
The Oragadam facility has played a major role in getting the waiting period of the vehicle considerably lower than what it currently was. The facility currently has a paint shop and a vehicle assembly unit. They will soon build a product manufacturing bay along with other important stations. While they do not guarantee the complete absence of a waiting period, buyers could get their vehicle in less than a month.
Royal Enfield did not have any competition in the domestic market for a long period. They have proved though with their Continental GT, that they are prepared to manufacture quality products. Since January 2014 the company has grown by 85% in terms of sales over the previous year in the same months.
The iconic motorcycle has got international competition from the likes of Britain's Triumph and America's Harley Davidson. Both these vehicles boast of exceptional quality and build, but the Royal Enfield is not far away from them on both those terms. The added advantage the two motorcycle brands have is that they have international appeal and owners can boast of buying an imported motorcycle.
