Kawasaki Z250 Launch Around The Corner
Kawasaki has been launching various products in the Indian market ranging from litre-class bikes to even more powerful motorcycles like the ZX14R. The Japanese manufacturer was selling the Ninja 250R in India, which was replaced by their 300R. This has left the 250cc segment vacant in their portfolio.
There have been recent tests with a bike that is a twin-cylinder and looks like a smaller Z800. Kawasaki had revealed the naked 250cc machine as the Z250, last year at EICMA Motor Show. The bike would slot below the Ninja 300R, and it seems the Japanese automobile manufacturer will use the same mill that powered the earlier Ninja 250R, but will tune it further to extract more power.
Kawasaki is expected to power the Z250 with a 249cc parallel twin, four-stroke engine, which will be liquid cooled. It will produce approximately 21 Nm of peak torque, along with 33 bhp. The engine will be coupled with a 6-speed gearbox.
The Z250 looks similar to its older siblings the Z1000 and Z800. It draws design cues from the Z family and has the same aggressive mean looking front. Kawasaki will be offering the bike with modern technologies. We expect the bike to offer ABS, it will also have a smarter looking digital-analogue LCD tell-tale. It will also have fuel injection for better performance coupled with fuel efficiency.
Kawasaki Z250 will compete in a niche market, it faces competition only from Suzuki's Inazuma. If we consider all twin-cylinder engines in the 250cc segment, there also will be competition from the facelifted Hyosung GT250R.
Kawasaki has begun testing the Z250 in India and it is expected to launch anytime. They have not revealed their pricing or exact performance outputs. We expect that the Japanese manufacturer will figure the best pricing point for the motorcycle and we expect it to be priced among the affordable twin-cylinder bikes.
