Hero MotoCorp To Almost Double Production Of Splendor Models
Hero MotoCorp, India's largest two wheeler manufacturer, has decided to ramp up production of its Splendor models to cater to increased demand and to fend off Honda's resilient automatic scooter, the Activa.
Hero received a rude awakening when the Activa stole the ‘best selling two-wheeler' tag twice - once in September 2013 and again in March 2014 - from the Splendor, which has long remained the undisputed king of two-wheelers in the country, in terms of sheer numbers sold.

To begin with, production of the new Splendor iSmart with start/stop will be increased from 800 units to 1,200 units. Production of the 100cc Splendor Pro, Splendor+ and the 125cc Super Splendor will also go up.
Production will get a boost once the company's fourth manufacturing facility in Neemrana, Rajasthan becomes operational. Apart from the new 7.5 lakh unit capacity plant, Hero also operates production facilities in Gurgaon, Dharuhera and Haridwar.
Hero, along with its erstwhile partner Honda, are the only two top two-wheeler manufacturer in India who have managed to post significant growth numbers. Bajaj and TVS on the other hand, have witnessed fall in sales.
Hero is also receiving a significant chunk of orders from its overseas dealerships, where the new Splendor iSmart has been well received.
While Hero Splendor did manage to outperform the Activa in April, the launch of the Activa 125 will only make things more interesting in the coming months.
Personally, do you prefer a commuter motorcycle or an automatic scooter?
