Ducati Airbags Standard In 10 Years
D-Air was recently revealed by Ducati, it is the first airbag that will be integrated into a motorcycle. It is currently available only with the Italian bike manufacturers Multistrada S model.
The Multistrada will feature an additional ECU along with sensors both in the front as well as rear. The bike will also have an accelerometer - these gadgets will help detect an accident.
The system is state-of-the-art and will not take more than 25 milliseconds. That is approximately 16 times faster than a person blinking his eye.
Ducati's D-Air will take an additional 15 milliseconds to inflate completely. It will create a 5cm cushion, which will be sufficient to absorb most impacts. Ducati claims the airbag can deflect energy as do most top-end back protectors that are available. It covers more area on a rider too.
Ducati has worked closely with Dainese to develop the software that helps deploy the airbags. The system is based on their D-Air Street airbag vest as well as jacket.
Ducati has not revealed prices yet, we expect it to cost 1400 Euros for the jacket. While the vest will cost around 700 Euros. These are reasonable prices considering the safety they offer.
The Italian bike manufacturer has revealed it will offer all their bikes with the safety feature in the next ten years. Ducati believes if they can save even one life, it would mean a lot to them and the effort spent by the two companies would be justified.
