"We want to be increasingly a global company with the best motorcycle products," said Rajiv Bajaj, managing director, Bajaj Auto. Bajaj Auto is India's largest exporter of motorcycles and three-wheelers. Exports in FY 2014 stood at an impressive 13.23 lakh units.
"Germany is known for cars, Scotland for scotch, Switzerland for cheese... India should be for motorcycle," Bajaj added.
In addition , the company is to soon launch a 150cc commuter bike that will form part of Bajaj's Discover range, something it calls a "blockbuster product".
While extremely successful in the past, the Discover motorcycles have witnessed a slump in demand, which the company says it is addressing. It cited difficult market conditions as the reason for the slowdown.
"We will launch the new Discover 150 cc in the commuter segment. It will be a blockbuster product - big, fast and not expensive. Not to get market share but the mindshare, which we have lost," Bajaj said.
