BMW large boxer-engined GS models have always been the pick among biking zealots, whose lives have been whittled by scouting new shores. The arrival of the new BMW R 1200 GS 'Adventure', raises the bar for this biking hamlet.
The GS Models have a history of more than 30 years, and there is no doubt in our minds 'BMW Motorrad' is the front-runner, when it comes to large-capacity travel enduros.
If you are a two wheeled explorer, who relishes to venture out to little known-waters, get hold of the all new BMW R 1200 GS Adventure. Soon, you will be exploring the farthest-flung corners of the world when others have long since turned back.

BMW 1200 GS Adventure
If you love to tour on a motorcycle and discover new terrains, the all new BMW R 1200 GS 'Adventure' will tick most of your boxes. In the upcoming photo slides, we highlight some of the stand-out features.
ENGINE
BMW has drilled in the same spirited air/liquid-cooled boxer engine featured on the R 1200 GS on the Adventure as well. The engine has a swept volume of 1,170cc and churns out 125 horsepower.
The R 1200 GS Adventure also features the all new precision cooling system which uses water instead of oil as a cooling agent. This stand-out feature was first introduced last year on the R 1200 GS.
TRANSMISSION
On the transmission front, the new bike features a six-speed gearbox that is integrated into the engine housing along with the wet clutch.
Also for the first time on a BMW production motorcycle, the maintenance-free cardan-shaft drive is now positioned on the left-hand side. With this approach, BMW aims to improve the rideability of the R 1200 GS Adventure, especially on off-road terrain.
ENGINEERING
The new 1200 GS Adventure is better in every way. Like the 1200 GS, the adventure is also built around a robust and torsionally resistant tubular steel spaceframe. The adventure is one mean machine, and is the top choice of world travellers on long-distance tours, even to the remotest regions of the planet.
BMW has equipped the ‘Adventure' with a lightweight aluminium 30 litre tank, which is 10 litres more than on the R 1200 GS. So if you wondering about your range while globetrotting - WORRY NOT!
On the safety front, the R 1200 GS Adventure already comes equipped as standard with ABS. The 1200 GS ‘Adventure' also features Automatic Stability Control (ASC), as well as two riding modes "Rain" and "Road", which enable the rider to be adapted to most road conditions.
BMW has thrown in a larger windshield, additional air flaps as well as hand protectors which now help to increase wind and weather protection. On the design front, the 'Adventure' shows-off restyled bodywork which adds finishing touches to the look of the new R 1200 GS Adventure.
FEATURES
If you wish to bump-up the current offering on the R 1200 GS Adventure, three further riding modes can be added by ordering the optional Riding mode Pro feature [Dynamic, Enduro and Enduro Pro] which can be activated with a coding plug making it possible to adjust the settings of both ASC [Automatic Stability Control] and ABS [Anti-lock Brake System].
HIGHLIGHTS
- ABS, ASC and two riding modes as standard.
- Three further riding modes available as an ex-works option.
- Semi-active suspension Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) available as an ex-works option.
- 30-litre fuel tank with similar range to predecessor.
- Completely restyled bodywork in distinctly robust and masculine GS Adventure design.
- Modified geometry of trailing arm for even sharper handling.
- 10 millimetres more ground clearance than predecessor.
- Based on the same versatile overall concept as the R 1200 GS, with spirited twin-cylinder boxer engine and agile chassis, but with enhanced off-road prowess and globetrotting abilities.
- Increased flywheel mass in the engine and additional vibration damper for even smoother running and superior rideability.
- Spring travel 20 millimetres longer at front and rear compared to R 1200 GS.
VERDICT
For now, the all new BMW 1200 GS ‘Adventure' is the ultimate continental crusher. If you have ridden a meaner machine - do drop us a line, and we would love to feature your CONTINENTAL CRUSHER!
