Harley-Davidson, the luxury cruiser motorcycle maker will start assembly of three additional models in India. These models are the Fat Boy, Fat Boy Special and Heritage Softtail Classic. Harley's latest decision comes soon after last week's Union Budget announcements, which increased the import duty from the earlier 60 percent to 75 percent for bikes with engines larger than 800cc.
Out of the twelve models that Harley provides for India, nine are now assembled locally by importing Complete Knock Down kits. Had the manufacturer continued to import the above mentioned models prices would have naturally gone up significantly, but by assembling the bikes at its Haryana plant the company will actually be able to reduce the prices by more than 20 percent.
