BMW R nineT Is Here: Images, Features, Performance & Details
BMW Motorrad has launched an exceedingly beautiful motorcycle, styled like the classic BMW bikes of yore. This cafe racer style tourer is the BMWE R nineT. It is no ordinary motorcycle, having been built to celebrate 90 years of BMW Motorrad. The motorcycle was unveiled by BMW in Munich on October 16.
BMW R nineT has been built to look and feel like the very first bikes the company made. Like BMW says, "When it came to developing the design of the nineT in particular, terms such as "puristic simplicity", "emotion" and "authentic, traditional materials" were also high on the list of priorities." The other priority was customization.
It need not even be told that the nineT has been built completely by hand. The 18 inch fuel tank, for instance, has been "painstakingly brushed by hand and then coated"
The engine is one of the center point of the nineT. It is the modern version of the same classic Boxer engine that powered the first BMW motorcycle in 1923 - BMW R 32.
The BMW R nineT is is powered by a 1,170 cc air/oil-cooled boxer unit. The unit generates 110 HP at 7,750 rpm and outputs a maximum torque of 119 Nm at 6,000 rpm.
One of BMW nineT's main characteristics is its modular design. Purists and enthusiasts can easily customize the bike either themselves or by specialists. BMW will also provide plenty of official accessories to modify the ninT.
The key behind the customization is the removable pillion frame and frame end-piece. The rider can also easily turn the bike from a two seater into a single seater by adding an aluminium tail cover.
What's more, you can remove the rear seats all together to go solo.
The customization extends to the exhaust canisters as well. The standard units are twin cans placed one over the other on the left side of the bike.
This can be replaced with Akrapovic units made of titanium by connecting them using short or long connecting pipe. The silencer can also be mounted in either a lowered or a raised positions, giving the nineT an entirely different look.
Doing duty at the front is upside-down telescopic fork that comes from the S 1000 RR superbike.
The rear features the paralever single-sided swingarm, along with with a central monoshock.
Moving forward, the single sided swingarm, fitted with 17 inch wheels can accommodate either a 5.5 inch tyre or a thicker 6 inch one.
Classic wire-spoke wheels with black anodised alloy, non-flanged rims, black aluminium hubs and stainless steel spokes further add to the nostalgia.
Floating 320mm brake disc, with Radial 4-piston monoblock brake provide stopping power.
Even the electrical systems can be customised to allow custom headlights and turn lights to be fitted.
Finally, BMW says, the "classic Black storm metallic paint finish with contrasting silver and metallic highlights was chosen to match the character of the nineT."
