Yamaha Ray Launched At Rs.46,000
India Yamaha Motor has finally entered the Indian scooter market by launching the new Ray scooter at a glittering event in Hyderabad. Yamaha's first scooter in India is available with a starting price of Rs.46,000 (ex-showroom price Delhi).
The
Japanese
two
wheeler
giant
which
has
created
a
niche
spot
for
itself
in
the
Indian
market
through
its
motorcycles
now
has
a
chance
to
capture
a
bigger
market
share
through
its
new
scooter.
The
new
Yamaha
Ray's
launch
saw
the
scooter
being
unveiled
by
brand
ambassador
Deepika
Padukone
and
India
Yamaha
Motor
CEO
and
Managing
Director
Hiroyuki
Suzuki.
Powered by a 113cc engine, the Yamaha Ray can deliver a mileage of close to 50kmpl. The engine can generate a peak power of 7.1PS at7500rpm and the maximum torque available is 8.1 Nm at 5000rpm.
Yamaha is offering the Ray with a two year/24,000 km warranty. The company has stated the Ray is just a beginning in its efforts to grab a huge market share in the scooter segment. In fact it is aiming at a massive market share of 20% by 2016.
Yamaha has clearly indicated that it is aiming the Ray at young girls by hiring the services of Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone. The Yamaha Ray will hence be competing with the likes of the TVS Scooty Pep+, Honda Dio, Hero Pleasure and Mahindra Rodeo RZ.
