India Yamaha Motors will launch its first scooter, the Ray in India on September 14. The Japanese two wheeler manufacturer has already created a lot of buzz around Ray by opening a pre-launch contest and by signing up Deepika Padukone as its brand ambassador.
The Yamaha Ray will mark Yamaha's entry in to the highly competitive scooter segment in India. Yamaha which has been considered as a good sports bike manufacturer in the country had for the first time expressed its interests in scooters by displaying some of its scooters sold in the international markets at the Delhi Auto Expo in January.
The Yamaha Ray was announced as its first Indian scooter but no more information was revealed. Over a period of several months Yamaha has developed and fine tuned the Ray. We had earlier reported about Yamaha track testing the Ray in Chennai.
To add glitz to its first scooter model in India, India Yamaha Motors signed up Deepika Padukone as its brand ambassador. In a clear indication of the Yamaha Ray's launch, the company on its website launched a contest where people guessing the correct price of the Ray could drive home the scooter. The company which has already opened bookings of the Ray has also stated that 1,000 people who have booked the scooter stand a chance of winning Yamaha Merchandise.
The Yamaha Ray's launch on September 14th will be an event to watch out for. Yamaha will reveal the price of the new scooter and then we will be able to see if Yamaha intends to compete with established brands such as Honda and Suzuki or move slightly upmarket like Vespa.
