TVS has finally confirmed that it will be launched in the new Phoenix 125cc motorcycle in September. The new bike is based on the Radeon concept bike displayed during the year's Delhi Auto Expo.
TVS has been struggling to maintain its market share amidst increased competition from Honda, Hero MotoCorp and Bajaj Auto. A senior company official has now stated that TVS will be launching one new product every quarter to regain sales. Fist among the new products from TVS will be the Phoenix 125.
TVS Motor Company Chairman Venu Srinivasan while speaking at the company's 20th AGM has confirmed the plans of launching one new product every quarter. He added that Phoenix will provide TVS a place in the 125cc segment where it previously did not have much presence.
TVS' 125cc bike currently being sold is the Flame. The TVS Flame has not had great run in the market necessitating the launch of a new model in the same segment. The TVS Phoenix will be competing against the likes of the Hero Splendour, Honda CB Shine, Bajaj Discover 125.
TVS has been struggling in terms of sales with a significant 20% drop in August. Despite the two wheeler segment growing consistently, TVS has not been able to match the growth. TVS is now planning to reduce manufacturing costs y decreasing the number of vehicle platforms.
Coming back to the launch of the Phoenix 125, the Radeon bike on which it is based had the same 125cc engine as the Flame. Hence we can speculate the TVS Phoenix will also have the same 10.5PS engine. The Phoenix's engine will be mated to a four speed gearbox. Other features in the new TVS motorcycle could be electric start, disk brakes and alloy wheels.
