TVS Motors which has in the past few months focused only on the Apache sports bike seems to be looking at the 125cc segment. Reports say TVS is planning to launch a new 125cc motorcycle named as the Phoenix. The TVS Phoenix could be based on the Radeon concept bike that TVS had displayed at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo in January.
The TVS Phoenix will join the TVS Flame which is currently the only 125cc motorcycle from the manufacturer. The Phoenix will add variety to TVS product line-up and buyers will have a choice of two 125cc motorcycles. You can expect the price of the new bike to be slightly lower than the Flame.
The Radeon concept bike had the same engine as the Flame. Hence we can speculate the TVS Phoenix will also have the same 10.5PS engine. The Phoenix's engine will be mated to a four speed gearbox. Other features in the new TVS motorcycle could be electric start, disk brakes and alloy wheels.
The Phoenix will be a make or break bike for TVS as the company has been losing its market share in the entry level motorcycle segment. With Honda also joining the fray with the Dream Yuga, TVS has one more competitor to think about. It will also need to take on established bikes such as the Bajaj Discover and the Hero Splendour. The
The TVS Phoenix launch is expected to be followed by the launch of a new 125cc scooter too. The 125cc scooter segment has emerged as a fast growing one and TVS does not have a product here. Its Scooty Streak has been a steady product but what TVS needs now is a new scooter that can break new ground for the Hosur based company. TVS had earlier hinted about its new scooter by displaying a concept scooter called the Qube during this year's Auto Expo.
We have to wait and how these new products will help change the fortunes of TVS.
