Students Develop Bike That Runs On Compressed Air
Yes you heard it right. Just air is being used to run this motorcycle's engine. The students have fitted an air compressor in the place of the fuel tank that will compress air and send it to the engine. The compressor is powered by a 12V battery. The four stroke engine has been modified in to a two stroke engine.
Compressed air is able to power the engine to speeds of up to 6000rpm. The air bike project is still in its nascent stage. Further development of the air bike will help in reducing the size of the compressor and air cylinder that will decrease the weight of the bike.
The students have claimed this air bike will drastically reduce running costs. The added benefit is that this air bike will have zero emissions.
Using compressed air to run an engine is a unique and cost effective concept. The students have said this system can be utilised in any conventional vehicle with little modifications.
