Big, butch and muscular has always been the design and styling language that the Tata Safari has thrived on, since the first generation of the SUV was first launched. The new Tata Safari is the biggest Tata Motors car yet and it is one of the best-looking Tata cars out there too. Up front is a split headlamp setup with a large bumper, a stylish grille and sleek LED DRLs.
It is only when one views the SUV from the side profile, that the true size of the vehicle is seen. The flared wheel arches, suave alloy wheels and chunky tyres all add up to give it a brilliant design and style. At the rear is a spoiler, split tail lamps and twin faux exhaust outlets in the bumper.
The large dimensions translate to immense space inside the SUV. It is roomy and airy thanks to the large windows and the massiv sunroof. The dashboard layout is stylish and practical at the same time, while the middle and rear seats are comfortable too.
The Tata Safari is powered by a 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine. It puts out 167.6bhp at3,750rpm and 350Nm between 1,750 and 2,500rpm. This engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Safari is available in front-wheel-drive only. 4WD and AWD are not even available as an option.
With so much power and torque on tap, the Tata Safari is a bristol performer with great 0-100km/h times. It is capable of cruising at triple digit speeds all day and we had enjoyed ever moment spent behind the wheel of the Tata Safari.
The Tata Safari definitely isn’t the most fuel efficient car out there. However, given its size it still boasts a relatively decent fuel efficiency figure of 16.4km/l for the manual variant and 14.08km/l for the automatic variant.
The Tata Safari boasts loads of features and some of them are very practical too. For example, the functional roof rails are capable of carrying loads of up to 75 kgs. Other features like the large panoramic sunroof, powered driver seat, ambient lighting, tilt & telescopic adjustable steering wheel, automatic climate control, rain sensing wipers, etc, make life behind the wheel easier.
The Tata Safari features an 8.8-inch floating infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Nine JBL Speakers make sure the sound produced by the system is a treat to your ears.
The Tata Safari was always a brilliant SUV. Any SUV lover definitely knows the Safari name and just how tough an SUV it has always been. The new Tata Safari definitely looks the part and boasts a brilliant powertrain. However, hardcore enthusiasts will still miss 4WD or AWD.
