Here is the answer. First, we will talk about why all of the manufacturers doesn't put fuel fillers on the same side. For example, Japanese cars have the filler on the left, German cars on the right, and American cars on the right but with weaker patterns.
For single exhaust vehicles, the filler cap opening is on the opposite side of the exhaust. Most of the Japanese cars have the exhaust on the right, while the American and German cars tend to have the exhaust on the left.
