In an exclusive interview with DriveSpark, Devanshu Khandelwal, the CEO and Founder of Wheelify explains more about what his company offers and what the plans are.

What are the requirements for a person to register/ hire a motorcycle from Wheelify?

The process is divided into three parts:

The Booking - We accept bookings done online; a person has to choose the location from he/she is looking for a ride and the dates of travel. The next page shows the complete fleet that we have in the chosen location. The customer selects the bike and quantity and makes the payment of the rent online. The customer also receives the confirmation along with the invoice.

The Pickup - The customer receives a pickup point address where the bike is available for him. We also provide a delivery service in case the customer is not able to come to the pickup point. The customer has to deposit a security amount against the bike along with a valid address proof like the Voter card, Aadhar Card. We also check his driving license and a form is filled which has several terms and conditions.

The Drop - Customer returns the bike to the same pickup point where the bike is inspected for any damages if there are no damages found we reimburse the deposited amount and documents collected from him at the time of pickup. In the case of damages, the amount for repairs is deducted, and balance is returned to the customer.

What is the screening process for renting out big displacement motorcycles? How would you know a rider has the needed experience?

On receiving a booking of a high displacement motorcycle, our team calls the customer to know whether the customer has some experience riding these bikes. At the time of pickup, we send a person along with the rider for a test ride. If the person rides it comfortably and confidently only then is the bike handed over to him. If not, we ask the customer if he wants any of the regular bikes and return the balance amount accordingly. If not we treat the booking as cancelled and complete refund is offered to the customer.

Wheelify helps people planning for group tours — could you elaborate how that is done.

We receive many inquiries from people planning a group tour. For such inquiries our team contacts the customer and take all his requirements like the number of people, the number of motorcycles required, budget stays or luxury stays, etc. A quotation is shared with the pricing of each component with the customer, and if confirmed we make the arrangements. Only group tours which are conducted on bikes are entertained.

Wheelify also conducts group tours of its own, we have done a group tour to Jim Corbett, Ladakh and Spiti Valley. More group tours to Ladakh are lined up in the months of June-September. In these tours, we have a mechanic, backup vehicle, road captain and all the accommodation and food arrangements for the group of riders

What are some policies to keep the speed of the motorcycle under limits? Do you have a restrictor or any such devices?

As of now, we don't have any such restrictions on speed as we offer complete freedom to the rider. However, we encourage the customer to keep control on the speed and also to take care of all safety rules. We give helmets with each bike for the rider and pillion. Few bikes have a GPS Tracker, and we plan to install such devices on more vehicles.

Do you have a cap on kilometres that a motorcycle can be ridden per day?

No, we don't have any limitations. If a customer has paid for the bike for a specific duration, he can use it as much as he wants. We are customer centric and will always be.

What are the cities Wheelify is planning to venture into and are there any specific reasons?

We are expanding into locations which have a good number of students as our major chunk of customers are from the student community. We also choose the location based on the leisure weekend getaways which are in a proximity of 150 KMs from the city. Cities like Pune, Kota, etc. are our next expansion destinations.
