Video: Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder Crashed By Hotel Valet In New Delhi
A couple of days ago, we published a story of a valet crashing a 3-crore Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder at the Le Meridien Hotel in New Delhi. Details of the crash were sketchy at that time, since all we had to go by were snapshots of the wrecked exotic.
We were eagerly awaiting CCTV footage from the hotel, to try and get to grips with the crash on that ill-fated day last week. That footage has been released now, so let's try and understand what happened.
The Lamborghini is seen queueing up behind other cars in the hotel entrance. All seems normal, till the valet plants himself in the driver's seat again after getting out momentarily. All hell breaks loose after that, as the car careens forward, almost taking out the concierge and narrowly missing the Skoda to the right.
The Toyota in front was not so lucky, and the out-of-control supercar rams into it from behind, spins it around and continues forward on its path till it hits a concrete wall, contributing to damage estimated to be over 2 crores. The strangest part of the crash is that the valet doesn't stop the car even after it hits the Toyota.
We stressed earlier in our initial report, that these cars, with over 500 horsepower, are extremely sensitive to throttle input. But several things could have happened. The valet's seatbelt was almost certainly not on, so maybe he was injured after hitting the Toyota, and couldn't recover to stop the car. Maybe the driver simply stepped on the gas too hard. Maybe he was not used to driving an automatic and panicked when the car lurched forward, not being able to find the brakes. Maybe the car was accidentally put into paddle-shift mode and the valet couldn't control the huge torque of first gear. Maybe he sneezed with his foot on the accelerator, who knows...
Unfortunately we can still only speculate about how and why the accident took place, because as you will see, it all happens very, very quickly. We will bring you more updates as soon as the details of the accident are made public, but you can find the video of this crash below:
