A gruesome accident took place on the Eastern Freeway when a Toyota Innova lost control and hit two oncoming vehicles. The accident left three people dead and two injured.
The Toyota Innova, driven by 48 year old Abdul Hamid Sirva lost control while traveling at a speed of 140km/h. The driver tried to avoid a pothole and the vehicle lost control, managed to jump over the divider, hit an electric pole and landed upside down on a cab and collided head on into a Swift Dzire.
The impact killed both in the cab, Nandlal Jaiswal (46) and passenger Vijay Kelkar (48). The two occupants in the Dzire, Mahesh Kuklekar (38) and his friend Ajay Jadhav (33) sustained injuries and were treated at Shatabdi Hospital. They were later discharged.
The impact of the crash was so much that the fire brigade had to arrive and later, fabricators were called upon to cut open the metal to remove the bodies from inside. Police have ruled out the fact of drunk driving in regards to Sirva, but are waiting on post mortem reports to come to a final conclusion.
