World's Stunning Airport Approaches You've Never Seen Before – Pics

Written By:

Landing at an airport is probably the blandest thing in the world especially if you're stuck in economy section of a rather large jumbo jet.

However, there are some places that make you never want to look away as you zoom down to put those big airplane wheels down on the tarmac especially if you're the one with the controls in your hand.

So sit back and take a look at the Top 10 most scenic airport approaches according to survey conducted by, a private jet charter booking site.

10. London City Airport, UK

If you're in a hurry and need to get to the centre of London without having to go through the horrendous traffic that plagues the city. As you approach you can enjoy views along the Thames including the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament and the Big Ben.

9. Los Angeles Airport, USA

Flying into the city of Angels isn't complete if you don't see the sights and sounds of the city before you land. You'll see everything from the Hollywood Sign to Beverly Hills to Downtown Los Angeles.

Los Angeles is given the designation LAX but the X doesn't have any specific meaning in the identifier.

The runway of LAX was also the last runway that Space Shuttle Endeavour called home before it was shipped of to become a display piece.

8. Princess Juliana International Airport, St. Maarten

If you fly in to this Caribbean island, be ready for a rather crazing landing experience. The landing strip is right next to the beach where there is a rather idiotic ritual of people clinging on to the airport fence as they get blasted by the engines of your plane.

7. Donegal Airport, Ireland

This is the as Irish as any airport can get. The isle is as green as they come and has a big mountain on one side, one of the best beaches on the other along with a few rugged islands.

The airstrip is a strip of tarmac on a sea of green and makes you want to get a few overpowered cars for a drag race with the loser going into the sea.

6. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, Canada

This could very well be the perfect airport for James Bond, if he could stop laughing over the silly name that it is.

Located on Lake Ontario, the airport can only be accessed by water based transport from the City of Toronto which would make it perfect for the British spy, if he can get his hands on that Lotus submarine again.

5. Saba Airport, Caribbean Netherlands

Located on one of the rockiest islands ever, this airport which is actually called the Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport has the shortest commercial runway in the world at just 396 metres.

Anything other than a really light aircraft will find themselves diving into the sea.

4. Barra Airport, Scotland

This is one airport where the runway depends on the tides. The reason for that is the fact that the runway is in fact the runway and gets submerged during high tide.

Perfect for a tax evading drinking guy on the run from the money hungry loan sharks.

3. Queenstown Airport, New Zealand

This is the perfect airport for all the hobbits and their hairy feet. This airport topped the survey in 2014 and has everything included on the approach to its scenic runway from mountains to rivers and lakes.

Perfect for the ring destroying hobbit in your life if you can deal with the hairy feet.

2. Nice Côte d'Azur Airport, France

If you're a Russian Oligarch who'd rather drive and fly rather than get seasick on the Riviera, this could be the best way to help you start off on the journey as you blast off on the brilliant mountain road to the casinos of Monte Carlo.

1. Malta Airport, Malta

For those of you wondering if you could ever get the wheels of your jet over King's Landing from Game of Thrones, all you have to is point the nose of your aircraft towards Malta international airport and watch in wonder as the entrance to city housing the Iron throne passes by under you.

Maybe you can even pretend you're riding a dragon, even though the flames are coming out of the wrong end.
