With the advent of new mobile technologies, more and more people are buying smartphones. And people are getting addicted to their phones, which creates serious problems such as using the phone while crossing the road.
Using smartphone while walking on the road can lead to fatal accidents. To solve this issue, a Dutch town, Bodegraven in Netherlands have installed traffic lights on the pavement.
The traffic lights are installed on the pavement so that people using their phones can see them. Strip lights on the ground may be unusual, but it is designed to catch the eye of the people.
The strip lights are built by HIG Traffic Systems, a technology firm. The lights work as a standard traffic light. Currently, the lights are being used as a trial. The company is planning to sell these lights to other cities too.
But this new technology proved controversial. A Dutch Traffic Safety employee has stated that it's not good to help people to stare at their phones while walking on the road.
In India, the younger generation is fast becoming addicted to mobile games and social media. People are staring at their phones even when crossing roads in the country, which can be dangerous as the traffic in India is hectic.
If this technology comes to India, then it will be helpful for mobile users on the road. But it is not recommended to use mobile phones while walking or crossing the road.
