Aston Martin have revived the Lagonda name and the first car from this 110-year old British brand is the extremely exclusive, extremely expensive Taraf.
The Taraf was first unveiled to a select set of Aston Martin customers in Dubai in November 2014 and Aston Martin at that time stated that the car would be sold exclusively in the Middle East. However, demand from Aston Martin customers in other countries saw Aston relent and allow the car to be sold in the UK, Europe, the US along with Singapore and South Africa.
So let's take a look at the Lagonda Taraf and find out just why it costs $1 Million
What Is The Lagonda Taraf?
The Lagonda Taraf is the car that signifies the revival of Aston Martin's other brand in the company name of Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd.
Only 200 Taraf's will ever be built and 40 have already found their way into the luxury garages of their owners.
The Lagonda Heritage
The Lagonda brand is actually six years older than Aston Martin. Lagonda was founded by Scottish-American Opera singer Wilbur Gunn in 1906 in Surrey, England.
The Lagonda name comes from the Shawnee (A Native American Tribe) name for the Buck Creek area near Springfield, Ohio, the hometown of Gunn.
Aston Martin bought the Lagonda brand in 1947.
Rebirth Of A Legend
The Taraf is the first Lagonda in over 25 years. The Aston Martin Lagonda, was the last ever car to bear the Lagonda name.
Production of the Aston Martin Lagonda stopped in 1989.
The Lagonda Taraf reminds you of the old Aston Martin Lagonda with its angular wedge shaped looks.
The front features a big grille flanked by narrow headlamps.
The side of the car feature sharp character lines that run from the headlamps till the scooped out portion of the rear end that houses the tail lamps.
The rear then slopes downwards towards the exhausts.
Hand-Made Carbon Fibre Masterpiece
The Lagonda Taraf is the only four door car in the world to feature a carbon-fibre body.
The 200 hand-made units of the Taraf will be produced in the same facility that Aston Martin used to produce the 77 units of the Aston Martin One-77 supercar.
The Lagonda Taraf uses Aston Martin's 6-litre naturally aspirated V12. The V12 engine produces 550bhp and 630Nm of torque. Power and torque is sent to the rear wheels through a 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox.
Speed Loving Luxury Sedan
The Lagonda Taraf does the 0-100km/h sprint in just 4.4 seconds and the Lagonda will keep on accelerating till it hits 314km/h.
The word Taraf roughly translates to ‘Ultimate Luxury' in Arabic. The Taraf has a 3.19-metre long wheelbase.
The Taraf's wheelbase is longer than the wheelbase of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. This ensures that the person sitting in the rear seats can stretch their long legs out without any issues.
Lagonda with the help of the bespoke ‘Q' department, will allow owners to paint their Taraf's in any colour that they want.
The interiors of the Taraf can be finished in almost any combination of leather, wood, carbon fiber, or metal a customer desires.
The Ultimate Price Tag
Each one of the 200 Lagonda Taraf's will start at a cool $1 Million (Rs. 6.65 Crores) and prices will only increase with the amount of customization the customer desires.
