Rich people these days buy expensive things-cars, motorcycles, jets, ships, cruise liners, houses, diamonds, jewellery, and even exotic pets. But the Sultan of Johor has bought himself a very expensive truck for a reason. Not just an expensive truck, but the most expensive one in the world.
Let's take a look at it in detail.
Who is Sultan of Johor?
Sultan of Johor is a hereditary seat and the nominal ruler of the Malaysian state of Johor. In the past, the sultan held absolute power over the state but now, it is the Chief Minister. The current Sultan is Sultan Ibrahim Ismail ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj (phew!), who is the 25th Sultan of Johor and the 5th Sultan of modern Johor.
The Sultan is a motorcycle enthusiast. Sultan Ibrahim is well known as the founder of the annual motorcycling tour event, Kembara Mahkota Johor. This event is held to enable Tunku Ibrahim Ismail to meet with fellow Johoreans as well as to provide charity for the poor.
Coming to Sultan's truck, he bought a Mack Truck. The truck maker's Australian division made a custom truck to adhere to his wish, which took more than a year to build.
Mack themselves claim that the truck built for the Sultan is the most expensive truck they have ever built.
The truck features a solid gold hood ornament, gold-stitched seats, and a built-in barbecue.
Mack did not reveal how much the truck actually costs. One fact the company is sure of is that it has broken the previous record for the most expensive truck, which is USD 350,000 (Rs. 2.28 crore).
Well, the reason is very humble-the Sultan wanted a truck to tow his boat around! The truck will make its Malaysian debut this week, after which he might or might not tow a boat with a truck that costs so much.
