Driverless Pods To Take On Singapore Roads By 2016-end
Singapore will be getting their very first Driverless Pods by the end of 2016. Each pod will be capable of transporting a total of 24 individuals at a time. The pods can get together forming a bigger and lower transport system, which will take care of 8,000 individuals per hour.
Driverless Pods are being introduced through an interesting Joint Venture. SMRT Services and 2 Getthere Holding B.V. (2getthere) will work together for this ambitious project. The introduction of Driverless Pods will be done in a phased manner.
2getthere is a Dutch company that currently takes care of the bus and light rail network. The Dutch manufacturer believes that it will have Driverless Pods as soon as 2016-end. Driverless Pods is expected to reduce vehicle congestion in Singapore significantly.
Autonomous technology is currently being developed by Google, BMW, Tesla, and several other companies. Surprisingly, if SMRT Services and 2getthere can launch their Driverless Pods in the promised timeline, it would be extremely interesting.
