Congo Gets Robot Cops To Direct Traffic In Kinshasa
Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), like every other major city around the world has traffic problems. But the city has come out with a solution to manage the traffic in the most unique way.
Traffic in Triomphal and Lumumba, two of the busiest intersections in Kinshasa, is not handled by human traffic cops who would feel tired and face hardships in the sun and pollution throughout the day.
Their jobs have been taken over by, what are perhaps, the world's first real life RoboCops.
The story continues in the next section. Click through the slides for more:
These robot traffic cops are eight feet tall and were designed and built by local engineers.
Powered by solar panels these robots turn and pivot on their chests as they flash signal lights, actively directing traffic.
What's more, these solar powered robocops even give vocal instructions to motorists and pedestrians, telling them when to stop and when to cross the road.
And if you think you can simply ignore these humanoid robots and not follow instructions beware as these robots are equipped with multiple surveillance cameras that record your misdoings and can issue traffic violation tickets.
