Video: Road Rage In The U.S.A — Biker’s Kick Causes Two Cars To Crash
It seems like a motorcyclist caused a car crash due to road rage. But was it really his kick which caused the cars to crash?
Almost all news channels in the U.S.A, especially around Los Angeles broadcasted an incident of road rage this week. The incident happened in the wee hours of Wednesday, and involved a motorcyclist, a sedan and a pickup truck, and was caught on camera by another car.
Causes of road rage are not uncommon, but most of the time they are not caught on camera. When they are caught on camera, the video proves to be photographic evidence of the act and can help trace down those at fault.
The motorcycle rider, who rode on what appears to be a Harley-Davidson CVO, kicks the rear left of the Nissan Sentra sedan. The Nissan Sentra swerves violently, and crashes into the median, then bounces back into the lanes on the right and hits a Cadillac Escalade making the pickup truck swerve and then roll over. The motorcycle rider just rode away from the scene.
While most media houses were quick to blame the motorcyclist for the ruckus, close analysis reveals that the driver of the Nissan Sentra had a greater role to play in the accident. The Nissan Sentra weighs 1,140 kilograms and that much weight even while travelling at 70mph (112km/h, the speed limit on this freeway) will not allow it to be unsettled by just a kick.
If the video is watched closely, the moment the motorcyclist's leg touches the rear of the car, the cars front wheels turn left. This shows that the driver was watching the motorcycle rider and intended to crash his bike. This left turn went horribly wrong, causing the driver to lose control and ram into the median.
The incident does not end there, as the Nissan Sentra bounces back into the right lanes. However, it wasn't just a bounce that made the Nissan ram into the Cadillac Escalade. The car can be seen accelerating towards the pickup truck before ramming into it.
The person who shot the video said in a report that, earlier (before the video was recorded), when the Nissan tried to get out of the carpool lane, it bumped into the motorcyclist. This might have been on purpose, as when the video is played in slow motion, it is clear that the Nissan Sentra was trying to knock the motorcycle rider off. Police are currently searching for the motorcyclist.
