This Naval Officer Took Her Harley On A 2,000km Solo Ride
Indian Navy Officer Lieutenant Commander Pooja Rajput has completed a 2,000km solo ride on her Harley-Davidson. She rode a Harley-Davidson Fat Bob.
Riding long distance on a motorcycle is not everyone's cup of tea, and especially riding solo is a daunting task. But this woman has completed a 2,000km solo ride on her Harley-Davidson Fat Bob.
Indian Navy officer, Lieutenant Commander Pooja Rajput undertook a 2,000km solo coastal ride on her Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Rajput says that riding and photography are her passion.
Rajput travelled from Goa to Mangalore, Coorg, Muzhappilangad, Ooty, Coonoor, Calicut, Moodabidri, and Karwar in her solo coastal ride from April 8-15, 2017.
Speaking about the safety of women when travelling alone, Rajput said, "When you are a woman riding on a 1600 cc superbike, it attracts lots of attention and there are lots of curious people on the road who try to stop you, of whom you should be aware."
Rajput advise women not to be scared when venturing new places on their own. She said, "You need to get out of the house, sitting in your home and thinking that something would go wrong should not be on your mind. Go out and assess yourself on the road."
Rajput chose a scenic route for her solo ride. The route comprised of beaches, coastal roads, hilly terrain and lots of hairpin bends. The ride pushed the rider and the motorcycle to the limit.
Rajput rode on a Harley Davidson Fat Bob. The motorcycle is powered by a 1.6-litre engine producing 65bhp and 121Nm of torque. It's one of the best machines to tour on.
Throughout the journey, Rajput met many people who encouraged her. She said, "There were a lot of people who were very happy to see me. At petrol pumps, families would ask to be photographed with me."
