And insurance is not exactly a cheap affair. We take a look at 10 of the most expensive cars to insure in the US, leaving the exotics aside. The data gathered is from Insure.com.
10. Porsche 911 Carrera GT3 RS
At the 10th place is the Porsche 911 Carrera GT3 RS that costs approximately Rs. 1.18 crores in the US, excluding insurance. So how much does one shell out to get the car insured? Well, one would end up paying approximately Rs. 2.17 lakhs on an average every year for insurance.
9. Audi RS7 Quattro Prestige
At number nine comes the Audi RS7 Quattro Prestige, which costs approximately Rs. 2.18 lakhs to insure, apart from buying a new car, which costs over Rs. 67 lakh in the US. But what do you get for that price? Well, you get a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that delivers 560bhp to all four wheels. You also get four doors and a boot to carry some luggage.
8. Range Rover SV Autobiography Black Long Wheel Base
Just reading that entire name you know the vehicle costs a lot and insurance is going to be expensive too! The SV Autobiography Black LWB is the most expensive Range Rover the company builds and it costs Rs. 1.34 crore in the US. The SUV is powered by a supercharged V8 engine that produces 550bhp and costs a person Rs. 2.19 lakhs every year to keep the vehicle insured.
7. BMW M6 Gran Coupe
When a person wants to buy a performance tuned variant of a luxury car, he has to shell out a good amount of cash. So for a car like the BMW M6 Gran Coupe, an person in the US will have to spend around Rs. 2.23 lakhs per year on insurance, over the cost of the car, which is approximately Rs. 79 lakhs in the US.
6. Nissan GT-R Nismo
Nissan's most powerful production car, the GT-R Nismo takes the sixth place, with an insurance premium that amounts to almost Rs. 2.34 lakhs in the US. The Nismo GT-R is powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 that produces 600bhp, and costs Rs. 1.01 crore in the States.
5. Porsche Panamera S Executive
A performance oriented car surely is expensive, but if you want to take your entire family along, you will have to buy a car accordingly, and the Porsche Panamera S Executive is one such car. One would need to spend approximately Rs. 2.35 lakhs per year to keep the shiney Porsche and the occupants safe.
4. Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG
Taking the number four position is the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG. The S63 AMG is a performance version of the already expensive and luxurious S-Class, which costs around Rs. 96.84 lakhs in the US. The insurance one would need for the car would cost around Rs. 2.37 lakh every year, and what comes protected under it apart from the occupants is the precious 5.5-litre biturbo V8 engine.
3. Mercedes-Benz S600
The third most expensive car to insure in the US is the S600, which is the non-performance version of the S-Class. Don't be mistaken when we say ‘non-performance' because the standard version comes with a biturbo V12 and costs around Rs. 1.14 crore in the US. To insure the car, one would spend approximately Rs. 2.39 lakhs every year.
2. Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG
Taking the second place is Mercedes-benz again, with the SL65 AMG this time. The car has a 577bhp biturbo V8 and costs Rs. 1.01 crore in the US. But insurance costs rs. 2.56 lakhs every year. Enjoying the wind in your hair with a roadster does seem to be an expensive affair.
1. Dodge Viper GT
If someone was expecting the Koenigsegg or the LaFerrari, well sorry for the disappointment. The most expensive car to insure in the US is a car made in the US, the Dodge Viper GT. The car costs Rs. 66.24 lakhs in the US and insurance costs Rs. 2.73 lakhs.
One would think it is relatively much cheaper compared to India. Think again, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe for example, costs Rs. 79 lakhs in the US and insurance costs Rs. 2.23 lakhs per year. The same car in India costs Rs. 1.95 crores on-road, and insurance will set you back by another Rs. 5.96 lakhs!
