Video: Watch A Koenigsegg One:1 Take On A Volvo Truck
Trucks are designed to carry big loads over big distances. But can they handle race tracks? We're not talking about purpose built race trucks here, but an actual cargo transporter. That's just what Volvo set out to do in this very unique marketing campaign that we came across.
The Volvo FH features the world's first dual-clutch transmission for a truck, that is claimed to provide better acceleration, improved hill starts, and superior driveability. However the real icing on the cake is that it is featured in a race against a very special ‘megacar'-the Koenigsegg One:1.
Obviously the truck would have no chance on the race track against one of the world's fastest cars with a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio, so the much-respected host, Tiff Needell, decided that the truck would have to complete one lap of the circuit against the Koenigsegg's two.
Of course this is clever marketing, but it's worth the 7-minute odd watch. Needell entertains as usual, and the sight of the truck leaning and clipping apexes must not be missed. There's even an attempted blocking by Needell towards the end of the race, the veteran journo still does not like to be passed, even if it is by one of the fastest cars in the world.
