Indian Railways Launches ‘Auto Express’ For Faster Delivery Of Automobiles
Indian Railways has launched the Auto Express for faster transport and delivery of automobiles. The train will operate between Gurgaon and Nidvanda (near Bangalore).
This freight train will be in the time-tabled format which will ensure timely delivery of automobiles and in turn helping the automobile industry.
Currently, 2,000 cars move per month in the Gurgaon and Nidvanda route, now with the time-tabled run of the freight of the train, the volume of the car delivery will increase to 6,000 units.
"Like our ever-growing population, the auto-population is also increasing on a faster rate. In fact auto sector is a fastest growing economy. If railways can tap it then it will be major source of revenue," Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said after launching the first time-tabled auto car freight train.
The special train can go at speeds of 100kmph and in turn will reduce the travel time from the current 70 hours to 57 hours. The freight train is time sensitive, so the time-tabled running will ensure quality service.
