60-Year-Old Indian Mechanic's Miniature Jeeps Are No Toys — Jugaad At its Best?
60-Year-Old Bawar Singh's miniature jeeps may just be the perfect vehicle to avoid traffic jams easily.
India's roads play host to nightmarish traffic jams that sometimes stretch out as far as the eye can see. Adding to the madness are unruly drivers who treat the roads as their own fiefdoms and try to shove everyone else out of the way.
Bawar Singh, a 60-year-old mechanic from Punjab may have the perfect solution to hellish roads and the nightmare inducing jams with a vehicle he built in his backyard in just two years.
Singh got the idea for a miniature vehicle back in 1975 when he added an extra set of wheels to a scooter for a physically challenged client.
He built his first miniature vehicle for the same person but couldn't build more at that time as that would mean leaving his day time job of a mechanic.
Now though, Singh has retired and has enough time to create his miniature creations which look like old Willys Jeeps and stand at just three feet tall making them one of the smallest cars on the streets today.
The miniature jeeps use the engine and tyres from a scooter and are capable of hitting 60km/h when an open stretch of road finally does arrive.
What makes these minuscule jeeps even more fascinating is that they can easily carry four people which means that people can transport their families.
The tiny jeeps also won't hurt the wallets of those driving them around as each of them cost around Rs 56,000 which is cheaper than many scooters and motorcycles out and about on Indian roads.
Singh has already sold seven of his creations and has another six that are yet to reach customers who are mostly other townsfolk from the neighbouring towns near Singh's residence in Punjab.
